Medals, Honors and Awards

Greetings,

I need help. I know we have Chosen of the Horn & Feather, Blessings of the Ascended and Ranger Rank.

What I need to know is has anyone ever heard of Medals, Honors and Awards per Kingdom/Ranger? What is the equivalent of the Purple Heart or Medal of Honor in, say, Olara? Has this ever occured in your games, convention games or has anyone heard something akin to this being mentioned?

Thanks!

There was mention at some point that the rangers earn special cloak pins depending on what 'rank' they have.

Bronze, silver, gold perhaps. I would think there are more but I dont know what those are.

Here's a link.  It provides the ranks and insignia associated with those ranks for the Rangers.

I know the other national entities have stuff but don't know if it was ever written down or awarded

It has never been mentioned per say, though if no one has...one will be warranted for this arduous campaign which has plagued the nation.  Something Sean Fannon perhaps should address or anyone from the flock who might have an idea on what. Seeing the Germatic theme, might want to borrow from that.

I think it would be cool to come up with some type of medal or honor to commemorate certain J&L Events (Rising Darkness, Crimson Crusade, etc.).  It would be a neat way to distinguish those that participated in those campaigns, giving characters a little bit of fame.

I agree. Various nations would have honors and awards for services rendered and perhaps campaign commemorations. That would be very cool.

Totally agree!  IMHO GM's often neglect simple things that make players VERY happy.  Medals that grant no game bonuses, cool items that really are nothing more than awards, titles to lands/etc. that really don't affect the game world in any way all help to define a character and make him/her feel more important and involved in the world.  Having a master breed horse for example, is not in any way OP, but it is COOL!!  Gaining rank in the rangers, medals, etc. often has no in game effect except that it makes the player feel appreciated.

Exactly.

Hell even getting a cool funeral helps ;)

All this recent talk makes me assume you are planning something for the upcoming game cause truthfully its warranted. Purple heart honestly doesn't fit this type of setting..too modernize. Get creative,  look at other fantasy examples and mideval.

Well, let's see what we can come up with.  ;)  I agree that medals and titles will be reliant on the locale, but there are some that will be universally known throughout an organization as well.  For starters, let's go with something easy - Grayson's Grey Rangers.  Here are a few ideas, so feel free to comment and add!

Silver Rose - Awarded for Exceptional Bravery and Courage

Bow and Quiver - Distinguished Service in the field

Iron Moon, Silver Moon, Crysarium Moon - Award of Honor and Galantry, in increasing precedence; Iron (Liadar), Silver (Diadar), and Crysarium (Unidar).

I'd love to hear your thoughts. I really like what cbooth has suggested, but plz put up any thoughts you guys have.

As most of you know, Wolfhaven "started" the Legios Heroes for heroes how have "stepped out of Shaintar" to defend against threats from other realms. Battles like Thundering Skies conclusion and Rising Darkness Conclusion. No in-game benefit, but something to define charactes and demonstrate epic deeds.

You guys put up ideas and I will certainly bring this before the Flock.

I really would like to have commemorations for Rising Darkness and Crimson Crusade.

I could see minor awards like campaign ribbons, such as Furalor Siege ribbon (The taking of Furalor), Breaking of the Bearheart Siege ribbon, Swift charge action ribbon for the forces that charged in to hold the other bridges.. sort of like the combat action ribbons given to veterans of Vietnam/ Iraq/ Afganistan/and the others..

For Essence users, awards based on their chosen profession: Either medals or orders.

Order of the purple flame (sorcery) Purple flame medallion.

White = Priest, Green = Druid, Blue = Adept.

Award a Coat of Arms that can be described by the player (perhaps someone talented can draw it up?)

Award lands and income with a minor in-game effect:  Purchase die cannot go below a d6.

Titles:  Protector of the realm, Master of the Three, etc. etc.

Minor nobility with a income would be nice.

Stahlheim would have service medals and the like that would be awarded for various acts and occasions, given the germanic nature of the dwarves, I would see their awards having some resemblance to German awards, with a dwarven twist. It would also be possible that some of their awards might be received by rangers and soldiers of other armies that have served alongside the dwarves.
